Learning Guarantee Program Award function
Unlike 2003 and
2004, where all roads led to a single venue to receive the LGP awards,
this year (2005) each of the eight education districts of North East
Karnataka had its own awards function. The idea was to give an
opportunity for all the participating schools to take part. Thus,
Bellary, Bagalkot, Bidar, Bijapur, Gulbarga, Koppal, and Raichur, the
eight districts where the three-year pilot project of the Learning
Guarantee Programme was conducted, were the venues. More

The
Rajya Shiksha Kendra (RSK) at Bhopal was
the
hub of activity even during Dussera, Diwali and Id when normally

educationists participated in the two day workshop organized at Bhopal
in September 2004.
The agenda was to review the concept of the Learning Guarantee
Programme and provide inputs to enrich it to meet its fullest

government has now introduced the Learning Guarantee Programme in 6,464
schools across 202 blocks in all districts and the evaluation of
schools, now in progress, will be completed next month.

Launch of the Learning Guarantee
programme
Azim
Premji, Chairman, Wipro Corporation inaugurated the Learning
Guarantee programme at Gulbarga on 23rd November 2002
The programme, a
joint
initiative of Government of Karnataka and Azim Premji Foundation covers
nearly 10,000 government primary and higher primary schools in the 8
North East districts of Karnataka. The 3 year programme is designed to
identify schools that demonstrate “guarantee of learning”, analyse the
success factors and communicate these to other schools. More

Accelerated
learning programme – A guiding light

It is
8 PM in Advi Bhavi village, about 500 Km from Bangalore and in fact
many miles from the Taluk Headquarters town. In the open compound of
the Lower Primary school, a crowd of about 200 children, 100 parents
and some village elders have gathered together. On the makeshift stage,
a mike, loudspeakers and a TV has been arranged. The 16 minute film “
Parihara Bodhane- Ondu Darideepa” is about to begin. More |

Anjum,
Eramma and Younus are 3 drop out children who were mainstreamed
in June 2002 at Government School, Konapurpet, Raichur District. By
February 03, they had acquired higher competencies and had an
attendance of over 90%. More
Bharati
and Savita
(currently studying in class
5) and Basavaraj (currently studying in class 4) are students of Govt.
Higher Primary School, Haglur Hosahalli, Siriguppa Taluk, Bellary
district. They were in the Accelerated learning programme last year
(2002-03). They attended the classes regularly and have been
mainstreamed after having attained the prescribed
competencies.
