Bangalore: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa launched the State Government’s unique “School Nurturing Programme” on Wednesday and appealed to the private sector to come forward and adopt government schools to improve the quality of education and school infrastructure.

“It will be difficult for the Government alone to provide education to all. The private sector should take the initiative to complement the Government’s efforts,” he said after inaugurating the School Nurturing Programme “Shalegaagi Naavu-Neevu” at Banquet Hall in Vidhana Soudha.

Earlier, Azim Premji Foundation chairman Azim Premji said improving the quality of education and infrastructure in schools was more important than adding schools. “Adding schools is secondary. First, we must improve the quality of education and infrastructure in the existing schools,” he said.

He called upon the Government to ensure that competent officials, who were passionate about education, were allowed to continue in the post for as long as possible.

For, any discontinuity in the service of critical leaders could significantly retard the development process.

Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri said it was necessary for society to develop an emotional relationship with elementary education.

Commissioner for Public Instruction G. Kumar Naik and President of CII Karnataka Chapter S. Vishwanathan were present.
