Computer Aided
Learning:
Cost Effective Innovations
Think of a single PC with
three display terminals, three keyboards and three ‘mouses’ which can
all be used simultaneously as if they are three independent computers.
This innovative idea from Azim Premji Foundation is deployed in the
Computer Aided Learning Centre (CALC) in Byatarayanapura Higher Primary
School in Bangalore South district from the last two months and also
recently introduced in Kurekoppa School, Toranagallu. The innovation
has substantially reduced the costs of initial acquisition.
In addition, as there is only
one CPU the cost of annual maintenance will also be lower. The total
cost of ownership which includes power consumption, UPS capacity and
Battery back up is also significantly lower.
Another innovation of Azim
Premji Foundation – single speaker and multiple head phones that
addresses the issue of noise levels emanating from different speakers
in CALCs is also deployed along with this innovation.
