Government of Karnataka up scales Learning Guarantee Programme to all
districts
2004
The Learning Guarantee Programme, launched as a
pilot project in North East Karnataka has been accepted and adopted by
Government of Karnataka across the entire state.
The first year of the project in North East
Karnataka has generated great enthusiasm and voluntary spirit for
accountability among schools and education functionaries in the region.
The state has decided to expand the programme to
all 202 Education Blocks in the State. There are over 48,000 primary
and higher primary government schools in Karnataka. In the academic
year 2004-05, 10000 schools (50 schools from each of the 202 blocks)
will be evaluated under the programme.
Successful schools will be awarded and
felicitated.
Azim Premji Foundation will train 100 master
trainers from the District Institute of Education Training (DIET) who
will in turn train the 1600 evaluators. These evaluators will be
education functionaries led by BEO, BRC, and DIET Lecturers.
