Learning Guarantee Programme - 2005
Results

Results of the evaluation of all 1898 schools have been announced. The key results and findings are as follows:

A total of 1887 schools across the eight educational districts of North East Karnataka participated in the programme this year. Of these, 144 schools (7.63%) schools emerged successful having met all three evaluation criteria – 100% enrollment, 90% children showing regular attendance and at least 60% children demonstrating mastery in learning (at least 90% level on competencies in Maths and language). This success rate is a large increase over the previous year when 84 schools had been successful.

Of the 144 winning schools, 69 (almost 48%) have won in category A while 34 (24%) have won in category B. As in the earlier years, Bellary district tops the performance list with 40 winning schools. This is followed by Bagalkote and Bijapur. Interestingly, Bidar district shows the highest increase in the winning schools followed by Bagalkote.

Ten schools this year have demonstrated complete success with 100% achievement on all three parameters – enrollment, attendance and learning achievement. The list includes 5 schools from Bellary and one each from Bagalkote, Bidar, Raichur and Yadgir.

More interestingly, 15 schools have achieved success in all three years of the programme. These include 5 schools from Bellary, 3 each from Bagalkote and Koppal and one each from Bidar, Bijapur, Gulbarga and Raichur.

There has been an overall improvement in the learning achievement levels as compared to last year. The proportion of children showing mastery in competencies (90% or more) has gone up in the case of 55.6% of the schools across the region. This is a very positive sign.

Summary
>> 144 schools have achieved the criteria for Learning Guarantee Schools - 7.63 %
>> This compares with 5.6 % winners last year (84 out of 1443 schools)
>> 15 schools have performed the hat trick: Successful all three consecutive years
>> 64 schools ( out of last year’s 84 successful schools) have retained their status as Learning Guarantee Schools
>> 55 % schools have improved upon their performance over last year
>> This improvement is also reflected in the fact that out of the 1443 schools that were evaluated last year and again in 2005, the number of schools that met the criteria has increased from 84 to 135. i.e. 51 schools have improved enough to become Learning Guarantee schools
>> The success of Lower Primary schools is higher than Higher Primary schools: 80 out 767 (10.7 %) as compared to 64 out of 1120 (5.71%)
>> Pupil Teacher Ratio (PTR) is revealing: The PTR for the winning LPS is 24 while the PTR for the other LPS schools is 35. The same has not yet been analyzed for Higher Primary Schools
